Quotes of the Week

Peter: "I'll read the short pages if you read the long pages." (After reading for over an hour, he was begging for just one more chapter. What a joy to introduce my kids to great literature.)

Patrick: "I think Jesus would like to play with my toys. But He can't now because He died on the cross."

Mathew: "Why?" (In response to being told to put his shoes away. Seriously??? He's not even 2!!)

Sneak Peek

We got a peek at the munchkin today - he (she?) was kicking and wiggling and doing flips. New life just never ceases to amaze me.

Yummy St Patrick's Day

I actually got five hours of sleep last night (in a row!) and felt great today. So after the laundry and schoolwork was done, I used all that extra motivation to make a yummy St Patrick's day meal. And I thought I would share it with you...

Irish Soda Bread

Corned beef with cabbage, potatoes, and carrots

Green "Shamrock" cookies (use your imagination)

And a happy Patrick!

Dog Pile

What began as "sleeping" and snuggling quickly turned into tickling and wrassling.

In other news, Mathew is learning to say a new word or two every day, which is a lot of fun. He can say "cookie" just like the cookie monster. It's really cute. But his favorite word these days is "Ewwww!" It always involves some little treasure in his hand - everything from bits of banana or crumbs off the floor to boogers and fresh dog poop. And when talking with words doesn't work, an ear-piercing scream always seems to get someone's attention.

Peter is reading absolutely everything he can get his hands on, which is great except that we're going to have to police up some of the reading materials in the house. I still feel obligated to read library books and magazines before he does.

Patrick has learned to write his name and isn't going to be left out of school. Or violin lessons. Or anything else Peter's doing. He still gets up early and snuggles with me during my QT, before the rest of the house is awake.

Kayaking

We tried to go kayaking on the Nisqually River on Saturday, but it was running really fast and we ended up doing more swimming than kayaking. But we're all okay and I managed to get a few good pictures before the camera got all wet.

Throwing rocks in the river...
