One month

Jacob was a month old last week, so I took pictures but didn't manage to get them posted. He's growing well (getting chunky) and settling into a good routine. We've even gotten a few dimpled smiles!

Peter and Patrick have really enjoyed playing in the snow over the last two days. Patrick brought in this "snack" yesterday, and he and Mathew enjoyed about 30 minutes of good clean fun.

Little Readers

Somehow in the chaos of the last two months, Patrick learned all the letter sounds and decided that he wanted to learn to read. So he read his first whole book today, and then read it again, and then once more for Daddy. He's pretty excited about it!

I guess it's never too early to start reading to Jacob...

Budding Scientist

Peter got a microscope a few weeks ago, and some great instruction from Grandpa. Now nothing in or around our house is safe. Yesterday, he figured out how to take pictures through the lens. Here's a sample, beginning with a caterpillar that we found in the garden.

Here are the guts of the same caterpillar after a little rough handling...

Hair algae from our aquarium. Peter's now discovered four different types of algae in our very green aquarium. "Mom, I hope you aren't able to kill all the algae!"

And these are some cells (endothelial) from the inside of his mouth.

I also stumbled across a pretty cool clipart website that some other homeschoolers would probably find useful. http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/

Jacob's Baptism

Happy Birthday Patrick!

Patrick requested chocolate ice cream cake with gummy worms for his birthday, and we celebrated last night. He got some animal costumes to play dress up, and some guns (with 63 foam balls!) to go hunting. It was a wild culmination to a very long week!
